What’s Coming in 2024 and Beyond for the EV Market (PDF)

As we approach the electrification era for nearly all types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and SUVs, the automotive world is abuzz with a wave of highly anticipated electric vehicles (EVs). Virtually every major automaker has wholeheartedly embraced the electric revolution, and a slew of captivating EVs are on the horizon. Among the roster of forthcoming electric automobiles, we have the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Kia EV9, and even a revamped Tesla Model 3 possibly in the pipeline. However, these four EVs are merely the tip of the iceberg. Here’s an all-encompassing compilation of some of the most enthralling and innovative electric vehicles slated for release in 2024 and beyond.

Cadillac Escalade IQ

The Cadillac Escalade has long been a flagship in the luxury automotive landscape, and the Escalade IQ marks its transformation for the electric age. Sporting an elongated frame compared to its conventional counterpart, it accommodates seven passengers and draws power from a hefty 200-kWh battery pack, capable of rapid charging at up to 350 kW. The interior boasts a colossal 55-inch display as standard, with an optional 40-speaker sound system for the ultimate in-car audio experience. It’s American-style luxury on an electric scale, and the prospects are undeniably appealing.

Anticipated Range: 450 miles Anticipated Starting Price: Approximately $130,000

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

The conventional Blazer made a return in 2019, but its design prioritized aesthetics over practicality, earning it a lukewarm reception. In stark contrast, the Blazer EV promises an electrifying experience. Featuring a completely redesigned interior and exterior, it will be offered in various trim levels and drivetrain options. The electric SUV will make its debut in the summer with 2LT and RS configurations, both equipped with all-wheel drive, courtesy of a motor on each axle. The lineup is set to expand in the following spring, with the introduction of the 557-horsepower SS model. However, please note that Chevrolet has made adjustments throughout the Blazer EV’s development, including trim cancellations, revised range estimates, and price increases.

Anticipated Range: 279-290 miles Base Price: $56,715

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

For those who find the price tag of the Blazer EV a bit steep, the Chevrolet Equinox EV offers an attractive alternative. With the discontinuation of the Bolt EV and EUV after the 2023 model year (though GM hints at a next-gen version), the Equinox EV steps in as Chevrolet’s entry-level electric offering. Priced starting at around $30,000, it is expected to provide a range of at least 250 miles. Moreover, it offers options for a generous 17.7-inch touchscreen and Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driving assistance system. Mid-tier models are expected to arrive at dealerships in the fall, followed by entry-level and fully loaded variants in the spring of 2024.

Anticipated Range: 250-300 miles Anticipated Price Range: $30,000-$48,000

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV

We’ve had the opportunity to test the new Chevrolet Silverado EV in its Work Truck guise, and we were impressed by its refinement and towing capabilities. Chevrolet’s answer to the Ford F-150 Lightning incorporates elements of the original Chevy Avalanche but comes loaded with modern features. Its futuristic design, foldable midgate (enabling owners to extend the truck bed into the cabin for larger cargo), Super Cruise availability, impressive range claims, and the option of a 664-horsepower top-tier RST model make it a standout on our list.

Anticipated Range: 350-450 miles Anticipated Price Range: $50,000-$106,895

2024 Fisker Ocean

2024 Fisker Ocean

Fisker Inc. marks Henrik Fisker’s second attempt at establishing an electrified startup, and early impressions of the fully electric Ocean SUV suggest this endeavor has strong potential. Comparable in size to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Ocean leans toward the luxury segment. It promises a substantial range, innovative in-car features like a rotating center display, and a commitment to sustainable materials throughout the cabin. Fisker’s electric comeback is just beginning, and it holds promise.

Anticipated Range: 250-360 miles Anticipated Price Range: $37,499-$68,999 (excluding destination)

2024 GMC Sierra EV

2024 GMC Sierra EV

The GMC Sierra EV is the third electric pickup from GM, following the GMC Hummer EV and the Chevy Silverado EV. While sharing mechanical elements with its counterparts, the Sierra EV positions itself as a more premium offering. Four-wheel steering enables a tighter turning radius and diagonal travel at low speeds, akin to the Hummer’s CrabWalk feature. Additionally, a version of GM’s Super Cruise will function while towing. The Sierra EV will initially launch in the fully loaded Denali Edition 1, priced at $108,695 before more affordable options become available throughout 2024 and 2025.

Anticipated Range: 400 miles Anticipated Price Range: Approximately $50,000-$108,695

2024 Honda Prologue

The Honda Prologue’s mission is apparent in its name: to serve as the introduction to a broader lineup of fully electric Hondas in the future. Honda’s inaugural EV developed entirely for the U.S. market may enter a segment already populated by Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Toyota, and Volkswagen. However, if Honda can leverage the technology from its collaboration with GM effectively, the Prologue still has much to offer and excite prospective buyers.

Anticipated Range: 250-300 miles Anticipated Base Price: Approximately $40,000

2024 Kia EV9

2024 Kia EV9

The Kia EV9, as the name suggests, is the larger sibling of the EV6. Among the few larger electric vehicles on the market, the EV9 accommodates up to seven passengers across three rows. It offers unique features such as vehicle-to-load reverse charging, enabling you to power accessories directly from the vehicle. Advanced highway driving assistance systems add to its appeal. Think of it as the electric counterpart to the Telluride, and it’s easy to see why our anticipation is high.

Anticipated Range: 280-300 miles Anticipated Base Price: $58,000

2024 Polestar 3

2024 Polestar 3

Polestar’s third offering, aptly named the 3, targets the SUV-loving market. As a premium five-seat crossover, it incorporates lessons learned from the 1 coupe and 2 sedans into a family-friendly package. Standard all-wheel drive, at least 489 horsepower, and 620 lb-ft of torque, a new Bowers & Wilkins audio system, advanced safety features, and a Performance model for thrilling acceleration make it a compelling choice. Its aesthetics and performance both contribute to its allure.

Anticipated Range: 270-300 miles Anticipated Base Price: $85,000

2024 Tesla Cybertruck

2024 Tesla Cybertruck

After numerous delays and uncertainties, the Tesla Cybertruck appears to be on track for production. While specifics such as pricing, range, and power remain undisclosed, Tesla has confirmed that production is set to commence this year.

Anticipated Range: To Be Determined (TBD) Anticipated Base Price: TBD

2024 Tesla Model 3

2024 Tesla Model 3

Though the release of an updated Tesla Model 3 (reportedly codenamed Project Highland) remains unconfirmed, rumors persist. These rumors suggest multiple variants, a lower starting price, exterior design alterations, and streamlined production to reduce costs. Despite limited information, the ubiquitous Model 3 warrants an honorable mention here.

Anticipated Range: TBD Anticipated Base Price: TBD

2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz

The bus is making a comeback, and this time, it’s going electric. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will be the second ID model launched in the United States and faithfully reimagines one of VW’s most iconic vehicles. Furthermore, this sizable cruiser packs a punch with the dual-motor version producing 330 horsepower—approximately six times the power of the flower-power Volkswagen Type 2 T1. Notably, the ID. Buzz will become the first minivan EV when it arrives in the middle of the next year.

Anticipated Range: 250 miles Anticipated Base Price: Approximately $55,000

2025 Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30 exterior

The Volvo EX30 may not be large, but it carries significant importance. As a compact electric crossover from a luxury automaker, it stands out with a starting price of just $36,145. The EX30 incorporates sustainable materials throughout its interior, eschews a traditional driver display (similar to the Tesla Model Y), and employs a relatively small 69-kWh lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt battery. Due to its compact size and presumably lower weight compared to other EVs, Volvo expects it to deliver a competitive driving range. If you seek a small, premium, and affordable EV, this could be the one you’ve been waiting for.

Anticipated Range: 260-275 miles Anticipated Base Price: $36,145

2024 Volvo EX90

2024 Volvo EX90

On the other end of the size spectrum, the EX90 offers a contrast to the EX30. Comparable in size to the current XC90, it features three rows of seating, integrates built-in lidar for advanced driver assistance, and provides ample range for long-distance journeys. While serving as the brand’s electric flagship, it won’t replace the gas-powered XC90 when it becomes available. The EX90’s size, space, and classic Scandinavian design combine to make it another highly appealing electric vehicle on the horizon.

Anticipated Range: 300 miles Anticipated Base Price: $80,000
