Women driving in winter weatherWith winter approaching, it’s time to prepare your cars for the cold weather. Winterizing your car can take time and money, so make sure you plan accordingly.

Keeping your distance from the car in front of you and driving slowly is the most important thing to be safe. Slow down, take your time, and keep your distance from the car in front of you.

Make sure your oil and antifreeze are changed

Maintaining your vehicle regularly during the winter months can only help to prevent any car problems.

Check your battery

It is important to have your battery fluid and cables inspected by a professional before winter approaches. Cold weather reduces your vehicle’s battery capacity.

Check if your heater needs to be fixed

When you don’t have heat in your car, short trips aren’t too burdensome, but what would happen if you were stuck there for a long period of time without heat? A working heater can not only help prevent daily discomfort but can also serve as a preventative measure.

Check your tires

It is crucial to inspect the tires for wear and rotate them with each oil change when preparing the car for winter. Take your car to a specialist to make sure your tire needs changing if there is any doubt about tire wear.

Make sure your tires are filled up

It can be extremely hazardous if your tires are underinflated on winter roads. You should get them checked by a professional and filled out if necessary.

You might want to consider snow tires

For driving on snowy and slippery roads, it can be beneficial to switch to snow tires, especially in northern countries or mountainous areas.

Put on snow tires only during harsh winter months to increase your fuel efficiency.
